TRADITIONAL DIETARY ADVICE:
Food literally builds us from the inside out, "you are what you eat" is an absolute truism. As such diet is a critical factor in defining our overall constitution and our resources of available energy. Our traditional approach to diet is to simplify, by reducing refined processed foods and replacing them with simple proteins and vegetables, to maximise our foods' nutritional value, by eating the freshest and least degenerated food available, and to preserve the value of that food and most effectively assimilate it by cooking it gently.
With these broad principles our personalised dietary programs can help with weight loss, weight gain, improvement of the quality of our muscles and sinews and with the available energy to function on a daily basis.
Alongside diet, the biggest tool we have to deeply effect ourselves on a constitutional level is movement and exercise. We change ourselves very easily on a defined physical level simply by engaging in exercise on a regular basis. If you lift a weight 100 times a day there will be an observable change in your body. The benefits of exercise are well documented and include improved immune function, reduced risk of musculo-skeletal conditions, reduced stress and improved mental health.
The good news is that you don't need to live by the mantra no pain no gain. Research has shown that conscious exercise which engages the attention and body simultaneously is amongst the best forms of exercise for health. In our tradition we use well known practices such as Tai Chi or Qigong, but some forms of Yoga or systems such as pilates will work too.
We work with you to find a form of exercise you can enjoy, which works in harmony with the goals of treatment, that you can fit into your schedule and where needed, which directly alleviates and improves your condition in the short and long term.
In the broad sense our lifestyle programmes look at your life as a whole and identify areas which could be responsible for the development or perpetuation of your condition. Once identified we can look at strategies to potentially change or manage those factors. Often food and exercise are the first steps in this process as the simplest factors for you to directly control and influence. We will start our by looking at ways to manage and implement the dietary and movement programmes so you have a space in your life to really take care of your health and well-being.
With the basics in place we can then begin to look at other areas of your life. Work, family, routines and habitual behaviours, all of which contribute to your patterns of life which is reflected in your overall health and function. We aim to identify the potential for change and should you choose to pursue it, support you through those changes.
