HOW CAN OUR TREATMENT PLANS HELP?
Classically Chinese Medicine advocates Zuo yuezi or 'sitting the month' for 30 days following birth, a practice which has its origins in the 1st century BC. In this period of prescriptive recovery, new mothers follow a set of regulations which include not exerting themselves by climbing stairs or going out of the house, protecting themselves from the elements by wrapping up, resting heavily in bed, eating foods designed to build strength and promote lactation and breastfeeding lying down rather than in seated position.
In fact there are a lot of rules, many of which don't make immediate sense to our western viewpoint, such as not showering or washing hair to prevent chills, not reading or watching television to prevent strain to the eyes and staying isolated by not seeing family or friends.
At the Natural Health & Wellness clinic we take the big principles behind Zuo yuezi and in combination with our treatment and exercise methods, we advise and guide you through the critical days following birth. The results are mothers who are stronger, more relaxed and better able to move forward confidently with the care of their baby.
For new mothers who are experiencing specific difficulties, acupuncture may help to alleviate a wide range of common post-natal conditions:
•
Postpartum depression and anxiety
•
Blocked breast ducts/mastitis
•
Insufficient milk flow
•
Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Haemorrhoids
•
Recovery from caesarean section
•
